Neuro-affirming counselling in Inner Melbourne
A trauma-informed space to make sense of your inner experience.
A slow breath while you’re here.
Talk therapy can activate our rational mind, however, it is often through going deeper that true healing can occur. Our body is highly intuitive, and stores more information than we are conscious of. At The Felt Sense, your body’s intrinsic knowledge is considered just as valuable as what you can intellectualise. It is here that we can trace the threads back through your life timeline to explore your holistic experience of what is both known and felt. Whilst context always matters, so does the nervous system underneath it.
Somatic, trauma-informed work that goes beyond talk therapy.
What’s in the way, is the way.
Welcome .
The Felt Sense is an independent counselling and psychotherapy practice in Melbourne grounded in trauma-informed, neuroaffirming care. It is a space in which your experiences are met with curiosity and compassion, and you are seen as the expert in your own life.
I'm Lauren, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. As an AuDHDer myself, my lived experience informs the way I practice. I understand the vulnerability in starting therapy with a new clinician, and deeply respect the need to feel safe and not judged. That is why at The Felt Sense there is no expectation to mask. You are welcome exactly as you are.
I recognise the inherent privilege that comes with being entrusted with my clients stories, and honour the strength and bravery it takes to open up. Whether someone is living with the impact of trauma, navigating intense emotions, or feeling chronically exhausted from a lifetime of misunderstanding and judgement, I aim to offer a safe place to meet you where you’re at. By slowing down, and allowing yourself time to arrive, we can make sense of your experiences, and ultimately allow you to reconnect with your authentic sense of self.
At The Felt Sense, all emotions are valid.
Ways we can work together:
-
A type of therapy that explores how unmet needs lead to “stuck points” that impact our patterns of functioning. Together we can develop self-compassionate ways to support your vulnerable child, and to advocate for your needs through strengthening your healthy adult self.
-
A type of therapy that aims to prompt the brain’s natural ability to overcome painful life experiences. EMDR procedures, like eye movements, kick-start the reprocessing of traumatic events to allow them to be integrated into more healthy, updated pathways in the brain.
-
A type of therapy that is highly practical, and can provide you with tangible skills for managing challenges in four areas: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
-
A type of therapy that is grounded in creating what’s known as psychological flexibility. This includes elements of mindfulness, defusing from painful thoughts, and acting in alignment with your core values to create a meaningful life.
-
A collective approach that taps into how emotions are stored and experienced in the body. We can work together to rewire relational patterns, identify unmet needs, and promote sensory self-soothing.
